Prosciutto di Parma is a prosciutto crudo (dried ham) and is a protected regional product from Parma, Italy, with a sweet, mild flavor.
Store prosciutto in the refrigerator, wrapped in wax paper or plastic wrap. Make sure it’s well covered to prevent it from drying out. Eat it within a few days of opening it for the best flavor.
It is possible to freeze prosciutto, but this is generally not recommended because the texture and flavor can change. It’s best to use it fresh and eat it within a few days.
Prosciutto is best sliced thinly, almost transparently, so that it melts in the mouth. This enhances the delicate taste and texture.
Prosciutto contains protein and minerals such as zinc and iron, but it is also quite salty and may have a higher fat content. Enjoy it in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
