When

From November 1 to 10, all of Flanders will be in the throes of culinary enjoyment as we celebrate the Week of Taste again! This year everything revolves around the theme “Half-Half”-aperfect balance between vegetable and animal food. The theme is committed to sustainability and conscious eating, focusing on both taste and health. Taste Week aims to inspire everyone, from gourmets to casual cooks, with new ideas to eat healthy, varied and consciously.

Theme HalfHalf

The HalfHalf theme: a conscious choice
The HalfHalf theme stems from a collaboration with Healthy Living. This concept encourages us to combine both plant and animal foods in the right proportions for a healthy lifestyle. The aim is to make conscious choices, create less waste and bring a delicious variety of flavors to the table. Thus, HalfHalf is not only about balance on our plates, but also about our health and the future of our planet.

Agenda

A week full of activities – join us!
Would you like to participate in an activity during the Week van de Smaak? Numerous events are organized all over Flanders, from workshops to culinary walks. Everyone can participate, whether you are a hobby chef or just love good food. The activities are suitable for young and old, and offer the perfect opportunity to discover new tastes and meet like-minded people. For an overview of all activities, please visit the official activities calendar.

Some big names
The HalfHalf initiative involves some inspiring names. Wim Ballieu, known for Balls & Glory, encourages cooking with less meat, while Tessa Avermaete of KU Leuven focuses on sustainable food and the practical aspect of HalfHalf. Wendy Van Lippevelde, professor at UGent, sees HalfHalf as an opportunity to positively influence eating patterns. In addition, TV chef Loïc Van Impe brings his creative experiments with plant-based ingredients, inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine, to the HalfHalf story. Together they form a powerful source of inspiration for a conscious eating style.

Get involved in your daily life using the food triangle

The Health Triangle is committed to simplicity and clarity, focusing on what helps you stay healthy every day. The triangle is divided into three parts: more plant-based foods, less animal and ultra-processed foods, and a balance between nutrition, exercise and mental health. This triangle emphasizes the importance of balance, where plant-based foods are prominent and processed foods should be limited as much as possible. It helps people make conscious choices for a healthier lifestyle.
