Method

Get cooking

Gather the ingredients
Peel the stewing pears, but leave the stems on.
Place the pears upright in a pan and add the red wine, sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves. If necessary, cut off a piece at the bottom so that they remain nice and upright.
Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer the pears with the lid on for about 1 hour, until they are tender and nicely red in colour. Let them cool in the pan.
Remove the pears from the pan and reduce the cooking liquid to a syrupy sauce.
Serve the pears warm or at room temperature with the reduced sauce.
