Privacy
johuys.be does not use advertising tracking, visitor profiles or marketing cookies. The limited data that is required is described below.
Who is responsible
Jo Huys is the data controller for johuys.be. Questions about personal data or requests to exercise your rights can be sent to chefjo@johuys.be.
Technical server logs
When you visit, the reverse proxy records technically necessary data: time, request method, domain, requested URL, response status, bytes sent, IP address, browser identification and any referring page. This data is used only to keep the site available and secure, investigate errors and calculate limited aggregate usage statistics.
The legal basis is the legitimate interest in providing a reliable and secure website. Access logs are rotated weekly with four older versions and are therefore usually kept for about five weeks. Error logs are rotated weekly with ten older versions, usually about eleven weeks. Additional container logs are technically limited to three files of 10 MB.
Visitor statistics
No analytics script is loaded in your browser and the measurement sets no cookie. Each day, an internal process uses the existing access logs to calculate totals for page views, response statuses, the most visited public pages and a cautious estimate of browser-like visits. The report stores no IP addresses, full browser identifications or referring pages and does not create visitor profiles.
For each browser-like visitor day, only the likely country is determined during the same local calculation. The server uses a locally stored copy of DB-IP Country Lite (CC BY 4.0), updated monthly; the IP address is not sent to DB-IP or another location service. Only totals per country are stored. The free database has more limited coverage and accuracy, so these country estimates may be incomplete or incorrect.
The legal basis is the legitimate interest in understanding which parts of the recipe library are used and in identifying technical problems. Only the limited server logs described above contain the original technical data; the derived report is overwritten daily and contains aggregate counts only.
Storage on your device
The site sets no cookies. Only when you change servings, tick ingredients or steps, or start a timer is that choice stored in local browser storage. Such a choice is no longer used after six months and is removed on your next visit.
Only when you select Save offline for a recipe does the site register a service worker and store that recipe page and required files in the browser cache. This storage is also no longer used after six months and is removed on your next visit. Remove offline copy deletes the local copy of that recipe. You can also remove all local data through your browser’s site-data settings.
This data remains on your device, contains no account or contact details and is not sent to johuys.be as statistics.
When you send an email, your address and message are used to reply and handle the question. Ordinary correspondence is not kept longer than necessary after completion; the guideline is twelve months unless the content requires longer legal or evidentiary retention. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in replying to received communications.
Sharing and external links
Personal data is not sold or shared for advertising or profiling. Only the administrator and necessary infrastructure providers may process technical data for hosting, networking, DNS, certificates and email. Social links are contacted only when you choose to click them; from then on, the privacy policy of the external website applies.
No automated individual decision-making or visitor profiling takes place.
Your rights
Depending on the processing, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability and may object. You are not required to provide personal data to use the recipes; technical server data is generated automatically with each web request and email is voluntary. A request is normally answered within one month. A reasonable identity check may be needed to avoid disclosing data to the wrong person.
