Broccoli with mushrooms

Cut the broccoli into florets and peel the stalk; cut into small pieces.
Stew the broccoli in a steamer basket over boiling water for 5-7 minutes, until al dente. Remove from the basket and set aside.
Chop the onion and finely chop the garlic. Slice the mushrooms.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until translucent.
Add the mushrooms and fry until they are nicely golden brown.
Add the broccoli to the pan and cook everything together for another 3-4 minutes. Season with pepper, salt and thyme or rosemary, if desired.
Serve immediately and garnish with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
